Terms of use
These terms apply to the entire content of this web site. If you do not accept these terms, please do not use this web site. The University of Manchester (the "University") updates these terms from time to time and any changes will be effective immediately on being set out here. You further agree that these terms are also enforceable by our supplier, Aluminati Network Group Ltd ("Aluminati"), who host these pages on our behalf. Aluminati are acting under instruction as the University’s Data Processor under UK data protection legislation. Aluminati will process personal data strictly for the purposes of operating this service. Aluminati is registered with the Information Commissioner under membership number Z8393842. Aluminati are a trusted third party partner of the University and contractually bound to provide this service to the University and our alumni, students and supporters. The Manchester Network allows users to update their details online, access a directory of all Manchester alumni, and, subject to an individual registrant’s authorisation, participate in online mentoring programmes. To enable us to offer this service some of your personal information will be stored in the Manchester Network. Both the University and Aluminati undertake to handle your personal information responsibly and in accordance with their respective duties under the most up to date UK legislation.
Please ensure you are aware of the current terms for the service, below. Please note that these terms are applicable in conjunction with the Division of Development and Alumni Relations (“DDAR”) Privacy Notice: http://your.manchester.ac.uk/privacy.

Information about you and your visits to our site
The Manchester Network contains a directory of all University of Manchester graduates which contains their name and course details. Through using the service and creating an online profile or mentoring profile, certain information provided by you (including your name, personal headline, biography, professional history, education details, email address and LinkedIn profile) will be accessible by other individuals who have registered for the Manchester Network (depending on what information you choose to share). These may be students, staff, alumni or pre-screened external partners (such as business contacts who mentor students). If the DDAR holds an email address for you users will also be able to send you messages within the system, regardless of whether you choose to share your email address. The reason for this is to allow users of the Manchester Network, including alumni and students, to make connections relevant to their interests. The Network acts as a messaging forwarding service but your email address itself will remain anonymous to other users unless you choose to share it.
Any information you submit to this website will also be visible to authorised University staff users (for the purpose of managing the service), as well as Aluminati employees. The DDAR processes information about you in accordance with our Privacy Notice, which forms part of these conditions. Further information about data protection at the University is available here. By using our site, you consent to such processing which is required to provide the service and warrant that all data you provide is true and accurate. If you partake in any mentoring schemes offered as part of the Manchester Network, additional terms and conditions apply. You will be presented with these upon accessing the mentoring area of the service and must agree to these before you can continue.
The Manchester Network is one aspect of the University’s alumni and supporter engagement programme. As such, the DDAR will also process information collected as part of users’ interactions with the Network to pursue its legitimate interest in:
- Communicating with students, staff, alumni, and current and potential supporters;
- Providing benefits and services to students, staff, alumni and supporters;
- Furthering the University’s educational charitable mission (which includes fundraising and securing the support of volunteers);
- Enabling the University to achieve its strategic and operational goals.
The DDAR’s legal bases for processing personal information are outlined in our Legal Bases Assessment. Further information on the information we collect and how we use it is contained in the full DDAR Privacy Notice. You can update your contact preferences or tell us you no longer wish to hear from the DDAR at any time by contacting us via alumni@manchester.ac.uk or on or +44 (0)161 306 3066.
